Uttar Pradesh is aiming to be an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) state by 2nd October 2018.
To keep this oath taken by CM Yogi Adityanath, UP officials are aiming at constructing a whopping number of 44,000 toilets every day.
Even though the scope for planned and proper sanitation was in place, the execution was pending. This prompted the Yogi Adityanath government to take immediate actions.
As an outcome of this announcement, UP officials are gearing for the construction of 1.5 crore toilets across the 75 districts in the state. The Government has also decided to train and prepare 1,50,000 masons for this project.
Meeting the deadline of building such a large number of toilets within a short span of time is a major task in front of the officials. Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar has asked the Magistrates of the 75 districts to schedule half an hour of their workdays to oversee the progress of work in their respective jurisdictions. Building toilets in the 59,000 Gram Panchayats of UP have also been scheduled under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Step By Step
To narrow-down the objective, Kumar has set a short-term goal of making a minimum of 30 districts ODF by the end of this year. He is reviewing this progress with all the divisional commissioners on the 10th of every month. The idea is to monitor and track the progress of this noble project undertaken and administered by the Government.
Mr Kumar has already started to review the project through video-conferencing. To encourage active participation of the officials in the Swachh Bharat Mission initiatives the state government has decided to encourage the IAS officers and bureaucrats through incentives.
While the entire state is working hard towards achieving the ODF status by 2018, some districts within UP that have achieved this status. DM Indra Vikram Singh of Shamli district has fulfilled the target of making the villages on the banks of the Ganges free from open defecation. He will be felicitated by the Panchayati Raj department for his contribution towards sanitation and Swachhta.
In this way, bit by bit UP is on its way to being a ‘Swachh’ state.
